Children’s dental clinic through Lincoln County Health Department

Since April 2005, Lincoln County Health Department has served children between the ages of 6 to 18, who are residents of Lincoln County and have MO HealthNet (Medicaid) or are uninsured. “We started out small and built up a long waiting list,” stated Jo-Ann Creech, LPN and Dental Coordinator at the Health Department. The program started with all volunteers consisting of dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants, who provided complete dental care for a few hours every month or every other month, whenever their schedule allowed them to be here.

Mrs. Creech has informed us that today, there is no waiting list. Besides having kept the dedicated volunteers, the health department has been able to contract with a part-time dentist and dental assistant to provide the needed dental care for the children.

With the shortage of dentists in the area that take the MO HealthNet (Medicaid) insurance, we have been able to provide this much needed care. The uninsured pay a small fee for each visit. Thanks to routine donations from the Troy Kiwanis and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, we are able to provide other needed assistance with oral surgery and endodontics.

MO HealthNet offers a choice of three Health Plans: HealthCare USA; Missouri Care Health Plan; and Home State Health Partners.  The Children’s Dental Clinic will accept the children who have those three plans.  Adults and pregnant women are not seen at the Children’s clinic. MO HealthNet (Medicaid) does not provide dental care for adults over the age of 21 unless the individual is pregnant.  Any adult with HealthCare USA can receive an annual exam and cleaning, but only at a dental office that except HealthCare USA and treat adults.  Any adult, without dental insurance, may call the Dental Clinic at 636-528-6117 ext. 4, for Dental Provider Resources that provide dental services for the low-income and underserved individuals.

The Lincoln County Health Department Children’s Dental Clinic provides a service to prevent dental disease in teaching good nutrition and maintaining healthy gums and teeth. We are excepting new patients, so if your child qualifies for the Children’s Dental Clinic, Mrs. Creech, and her clinic staff, can help in making an appointment by calling them at 636-528-6117, ext. 4.  Your child’s first visit will consist of an exam, x-rays, cleaning and a fluoride treatment. Any appointments needed for restorations will be made accordingly at that time.
