The Cuivre River Farmers Market (CRFM) is preparing for its third big season in Troy. Held every Saturday from March thru October in front of Tractor Supply Company, the CRFM is the only ongoing weekly market of its type in the city limits.
During the off-season, meetings are held to prepare for the next. One occurred in January, and another is planned for Feb. 22 at the University Extension Center
On Jan. 11, a membership meeting was held at the Extension Center with 13 attending. Market Steward Len Bolin presided as elections for other positions were held. Connie Winkelman was re-elected as market director for a two year term, and Carl Bowen was elected as steward assistant for a one year term. Filling other volunteer positions were: Jennie Trent as assistant market director, Jessie Iffrig as treasurer, and Sue Bolin as secretary.
Other business conducted included voting to fund an education scholarship program for members’ children or grandchildren. Members voted to extend the market hours by two hours-staying open until 3 p.m.
On Feb. 22, the final preseason meeting will be held starting at 1 p.m. The market membership will be voting on updated bylaws, and continuing work on special events including the Spring Fling held the first weekend in May, and the Fall Festival (dates TBD). Market membership fees are due by the end of February, so this will also be a good opportunity to get paid up at the reduced “returning members” rate.
