Dennis Burbridge-Melba Elston- Camille Chaves-Esquivel

Funeral service for Dennis Dale “Denny” Burbridge, 75, of Elsberry, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.  Rev. Richard Pillers, pastor of the Elsberry Assembly of God Church, will officiate with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery.

Mr. Burbridge, 75, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Peters.

Born Nov. 3, 1937, in Paynesville, he was the son of Raymond K. and Clara Gertrude Suddarth Burbridge.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corp.  He was united in marriage on March 14, 1970, in Elsberry to Gloria Jean Howland.

He was employed for many years as a heavy equipment operator for Fred Weber Construction in St. Louis.  He started his career with Briscoe & Ray Quarries in Lincoln County.  He was a member of the Operating Engineers in St. Louis, Local #513.  He served his community for several years as an Elsberry City Alderman.

He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 43 years, Gloria Burbridge, of Elsberry; five daughters: Denise Wolfe and her husband, Donnie, of Elsberry, Debbie Bedinghaus, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Danielle Wood and her husband, Landon, of Moscow Mills, Deirdre Sauberan and her husband, Kenny, of Granite Falls, N.C., and Lena Rivers and her husband, Steve, of Claremore, Okla.; one son, Yancy Burbridge and his wife, Jaimi, of Troy; a special family friend who made his home with the Burbridge family, Erik Hummel and his wife, Stephanie, of Columbia, Mo.; 17 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  He also leaves his brother, Kenny Burbridge and his wife, Lorraine, of Elsberry; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation was held from 4 – 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.

Melba Elston

Mrs. Melba Elston, 91, of Troy, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Troy Manor.

She was born on Nov. 25, 1921, in Troy, to Everett and Bertie (Taylor) Slavens. Melba grew up in Troy along with her sister, Lillian and they attended the Harmony Grove School. She married her sweetheart, Archie Colbert, during WWII. During this time, she worked at the Meers Heel Factory in Troy. When Archie returned home from service, they opened Colbert’s Auto Repair on Cherry Street. Melba assisted her husband in every aspect of the business. She had been a founding member of the Troy Garden Club. Melba grew over 50 kinds of roses in her garden. She was a meticulous gardener and her yard was beautiful to behold. Melba also belonged to the Evangeline Club and was an active member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Troy. Her turkey dressing was served at the annual turkey dinner at church. Many folks also remembered her delicious green beans. She was always a willing worker. The couple spent many winters in Arizona after their retirement. In 1987, Archie passed away. She later married Sam Elston. Together they enjoyed many years together. . Melba and Sam spent many winters together in both Florida and Arizona. When Melba’s health began to fail, Sam was always at her side, taking extra special care of his wife.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Sam Elston of Troy; her nephew Wayne Ricks and wife, Marilyn, of Benedict, Minn.; her great-nephew, Kelly Ricks, wife Lynette and their children, Wyatt and Kayla; her two step-daughters: Patti and husband, Phil Riffle, of Troy and Beverle Prior, of Hannibal. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Vivian Himmel; three step-grandsons, five step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be  held, Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral & Cremation Center, 1304 Boone St., Troy.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Troy. Rev. James Huffman and Rev. Gary Jackson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Troy City Cemetery, Troy.

Camille Renee Chaves-Esquivel , 54passed away at her residence in Troy on Jan. 5, 2013.

She was born on April 7, 1958 in San Diego, Calif. to Alfred and Alice (Montejano) Chaves. Camille was blessed with three children: Gary, Jeremy and Nicole.

Survivors include her beloved Ken Kube of St. Charles; two sons: Gary (Crystal) Cook Jr. and wife, Crystal, of Ellisville, Jeremy Cook of St. Louis; one daughter, Nicole Cook and fiancee, Derek McGlasson of Lonedell; two brothers: Manuel Chaves and wife, Gina,  of Kansas City, Anthony Chaves, of Turlock, Calif.; five sisters: Roxanne Ornelas, of Oxford, Ohio, Cathy Chaves, of Modesto, Calif., Yvette Brian and husband, Oliver, of West Virginia, Marcella Chaves of Turlock, Calif., Francine Chaves of Modesto, Calif.; eight grandchildren and her children’s father, Gary Cook Sr., of Lonedell.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan 12, 2013 at the Christ Centered Church 2221 W. Outer Hwy. 61,Troy. The funeral service will be held at noon on the same day as the visitation.
