Elsberry girls aim at winning season, boys win third straight conference title

The Lady Indians had a mixed week as they split games.

On Friday, Feb. 8 against Montgomery County they won 42-17. According to Lady Indians Head Coach Hector Bencomo, the girls had a good production out of all players and went in knowing they could play.

Key players were Brittni Hagemeier with 12-points, Krista Dye with 10-points and Olivia Brown with eight-points.

Unfortunately, the Lady Indians were unable to keep that momentum going as they took on the Bowling Green Lady Wildcats on Feb. 11 and lost 49-19.

“This is the first loss we had this year that was this lopsided,” said Bencomo.

Right now the Lady Indians hold a season record of 3-4 but with one more conference game to go and Districts still in sight, Bencomo said they hope to at least make it a 4-4 if not a 5-4 season.

The Elsberry Indians were able to three-peat their conference title as they defeated Montgomery County on Friday, Feb. 8, 61-45.

“I thought we played well against Montgomery County, I wouldn’t say we played extremely great but we played well at home,” said Indians Head Coach Ryan Parker.

Parker went on to say that he felt as though a lot of his kids stepped up. Not just the typical bunch but Rodney Chatman made five-points, Ethan Pott made two three-pointers, Adam Sherrow had two-points and Dylan Howard had six-points.

However, there would be a much different team on the floor during Monday, Feb. 11 game against Bowling Green, where the Indians lost 57-54, giving them a 8-1 season record with one more conference game to go, which if they win they will hold the conference title solo. But if they lose it will be shared with other schools holding 7-2 records.
