An Elsberry teenager was fatally injured Monday morning in a four vehicle accident onHwy. 79, just south of the Hwy. 47 intersection, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Time of the accident was 6:25 a.m.
According to the report, a 1992 Toyota Camry driven by Kenny Mitchell, 27, of Foley and a 2004 Ford Ranger driven by Joshua Magruder, 25, of Winfield were stopped in traffic. A 2008 Hyundai driven by William S. Young, 62, Lake Saint Louis, struck the rear of the Camry which struck the rear of the Ranger causing the Ranger to spin, The Ranger then struck a parked 1996 Chevrolet S10 which was unoccupied.
Jillian Young, 17, of Elsberry and a passenger in the Hyundai Sonata, was pronounced at the scene by Coroner Lisa Stitler at 8 a.m. All drivers and Jillian Young were using seat belts at the time of the accident.
During the operations, Highway 79 was closed to traffic in both directions for approximately 2 hours.
Jillian Young was a student at Elsberry High School.
DISTRICT GRIEVES THE LOSS OF STUDENT
A statement from Dr. Tim Reller, Superintendent of Elsberry School District, regarding the death of Elsberry High School student Jillian Young. Jillian, an active member of our school and community, was an 11th grade student at Elsberry High School.
“We are all shocked and saddened by the loss of Jillian Young. In an effort to help students and families who may be affected, the district had extra counseling resources available today and they will be available as long as needed. Parents who feel their student may need extra counseling are encouraged to contact the high school office. We also want to let the Lovelace & Young families know the entire district is deeply saddened by this tragic loss. Our hearts go out to them during this difficult time.”
