Although the season hasn’t gone quite as well as they would have hoped, Elsberry Indians Head Soccer Coach Dustin Robinson said they still look forward to the rest of the season to show their talents.

The Indians took the field for the first time on Sept. 3 in a 5-0 loss to Mexico.

“With it being our first game of the year, we realized that we had some learning to do,” explained Robinson. “We have eight new players to our program, but we came out of this game learning a little bit of what varsity soccer is all about.”

Next they took on Hannibal on Friday, Sept. 6 and once again they would see defeat, 5-2. But according to Robinson, they had a short bench due to three starters out of the lineup for either sickness or one who had a concussion.

Ben Rhoades had both goals on Friday night with Jacob Braden and Mason Cameron coming through with the assists. According to Robinson, Grant Black played outstanding in goal by stopping 19 shots. However, mid way through the second half they gave up four goals in a matter of 15 minutes.

Troy Trojans defeated Crossroad 4-1. Josh Phillips scored two goals with Mason Burgess and Bryan Fisher getting one each. Tyler Lewis, Logan Taylor and Rodger Hughes had assists. Jeremy McKenna was the goalkeeper.

Phillips, Burgess and Taylor scored goals in a 3-1 win over McCluer North. McKenna was again the winning goalkeeper, making four saves.

After a 5-0 loss to Parkway West, Troy bounced back with a 3-2 win over Francis Howell North. Phillips and Lewis each had a goal and an assist. Burgess had the other goal and McKenna also assisted on a goal. He also was the winning goalkeeper.
