Fashion show for St. Jude children

On March 30, Carol Herring, dress designer, held a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Hospital to help children in need. The fashion show raised $2,000 this year. This is the fourth annual fashion show and every year they bring in more money to be donated. “I wanted to thank everyone who helped with this event. The models were all volunteers, the great people at the Troy VFW Hall who let us use their facility, and my niece, Evelyn Missey, who promoted the event and helped me with all the loose ends while I prepared the dresses.” said Herring.

Herring sewed and created everything in the event from casual wear to business casual to cruise and formal gowns. “I’m very thankful for my gift that was passed down to me through my family. By being able to sew and create sometime unique to each person I can bring back the special feeling each bride should have when they walk down the aisle.”

Herring has been sewing for over 55 years and her dream is to own her own business and become a designer and oversee the work that other great seamstresses have to offer. Herring first got started at a young age when she fell between junior sizes and women sizes. “Growing up a taller lady became a struggle with how things fit and still wanting to be in styles that fit my age,” Herring said. She made her own wedding gown; her bridesmaid dress and her flower girl dress for her wedding and since then the passion only grew. Herring operates under New Beginning Design and has a special line of gowns called Her Gowns 2 in 1 that will satisfy the urge for having a long and short gown. “I have been working on this for some time now and will be getting a patent on it since it is the first of its kind,” said Herring.
