Elsberry students started back to class Monday Aug. 20 and to celebrate the end of the first week of school and all the work that parents, teachers, and faculty had put in to prepare for the beginning of a new school year, the Elsberry First Baptist Church threw a party!
The church’s event was called the “Back to School BLAST” and was held on the soccer field and track in front of Elsberry High School. The church rented a 40-foot obstacle course, an 18-foot dry slide, and a jumbo sized bounce house for children to enjoy at no expense to them or their parents. Volunteers from the church also provided, free of charge, snow cones, cotton candy, and popcorn to children and adults alike. In addition to the food and games.
First Baptist hired artist Keli Schaefer for the evening to do face painting. While at the event, families could sign their children for TeamKID, an after-school program on Tuesdays throughout the school year for kindergarten through fourth graders. The church also provided information about their Moms group with meets the second and fourth Tuesday morning of each month when school is in session. The Pickle Barrel, an Elsberry restaurant, was present as well selling drinks and sandwiches to those in attendance.
