The Elsberry Fire Protection District battled a fully engulfed vacant home on Lincoln Street on Sept. 12.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, Sept. 12 the Elsberry Fire Protection District was called for an outside fire that upon arrival turned out to be a fully engulfed residential home.

Upon arrival flames could be seen from the vacant home at 717 Lincoln Street, the home of former Elsberry Mayor and Postmaster Bill Waggoner and his wife Eddie Ann.

Upon arrival  firefighters attacked the flames through the front door. Crews were pushed back due to heat.

Some items were able to be salvaged by Elsberry Firefighters.

Man power as well as a pumper was requested from Winfield-Foley and Lincoln County Fire Protection Districts.

The state Fire Marshall was called to the scene as the fire was under investigation.

According to Chief Kevin Hailey, the Fire Marshall deemed that the fire was intentionally set.

Anyone with any information about the fire can contact the Arson Hotline at 1-800-39ARSON or contact the Elsberry Fire Department. A $5000 reward is being offered for information.

This same home recently had been broken into.
