Christmas comes but once a year and brings a flurry of decorating, shopping, gift wrapping, holiday cards, and all the trimmings. If your family is like the average household, you will find yourself with a huge amount of material to dispose of after the holidays. Instead of piling everything in a trash can, please consider recycling.
The East Central Missouri Recycling Center, located at 24448 South Highway 47 in Warrenton offers area residents an opportunity to recycle. The facility will be accepting both live and artificial Christmas trees at no cost. Also accepted will be Christmas lights, wrapping paper, cards and boxes, along with any old electronics or appliances. There will be a $10 fee for televisions and computer monitors. You may recycle many other items at the center including plastic, glass, aluminum and tin cans. A complete list is available at www.boonslick.org/recycling-center.
According to some estimates, Americans throw away 25 percent more trash during the Thanksgiving to New Year’s holiday period than any other time of the year. The East Central Missouri Recycling Center has collected approximately 200 tons of recyclables during the past year and hopes to divert additional material from the landfills with this emphasis on post-holiday collection. The center is open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day), and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. If you have questions you may call (636) 456-3473.
