Ricky Eisenbath won his third Soap Box Derby title in four years, winning the event held in Troy, He outran Jerry Jones in the final heat. David Turnbull was third and Harry Jones was fourth.

Troy Khoury League Midgets coached by Leon Creech had a successful season, posting a 17-1 record and area championship.
Team members include Jim Nett, Terry Harrell, David Creech, Steven Creech, Dennis Spires, Mike Cannon, Terry Humphrey, Steve Harke, Mike West, James Lee Cockrell, Mark Shafer, Danny Kavanagh, and Roger Hrdina, David Norton was also a member of this team but was killed in a auto accident.

J. P. Morgan, who was born in Silex, has been appointed as the Missouri Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Rusty Simmons was elected president of the Auburn 4-H Club; Ted Henke, vice-president; Greg Rhoades, secretary; Mark Herring, treasurer; Ricky Simmons, game leader; Matt Herring, reporter; Kenny Dickherber, song leader; and Ellen Tucker, club historian.

The Trojan Pride Marching Band performed at Lindenwood College as part of the GAC Gridiron Challenge. The Trojans played Francis Howell Central that evening.
