The Silex R-I School District has named Rod Hamlett as its new high school principal.
Hamlett was hired by the board of education on March 28. He will be replacing current principal Dr. Tom Moore. Hamlett will start his duties as principal on Aug. 1.
Hamlett comes to Silex with 18 years of educational experience, which includes stints both in the classroom and as an administrator. He began his career at the Lincoln County R-III School District in Troy as a middle school teacher and after six years, advanced to become middle school assistant principal.
He held the same position for five years in Wright City before moving on to become an instructional support facilitator for the St. Louis Public School District.
Hamlett earned a bachelors of education degree from Missouri Baptist University, a masters of education from William Woods University and an education specialist degree from Missouri Baptist.
“As a board, we knew the process needed to be a little different in order to ensure we got the very best candidates possible,” said Tommy Kreuger, Silex board president. “The process worked very well, and we are pleased to add Rod to the administrative and leadership team here at Silex. We are confident he will be an excellent principal for the district.”
Hamlett says that he is excited about working with the school district this upcoming year.
“I’ve always had an interest in Silex,” said Hamlett. “Being from Troy and working in the area most of my career, I have seen the success the school has had in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the community. I am drawn to that, and we will build on that and take it to the next level. We cannot be satisfied with what has been done in the past.”
