Lincoln County Prosecuting Attorney Leah Askey announced today that Jeremy Harley, 21, of Moscow Mills, Mo., was sentenced in the Circuit Court of Pike County by the Honorable Dan Dildine for Child Kidnapping and Child Molestation in the First Degree. Harley received a 15 year sentence for Child Kidnapping, and 15 years for Child Molestation in the First Degree, sentences to run concurrently.
The charges arose out of events occurring on June 12, 2011 in Moscow Mills, Mo. The victim, who was five years old at the time, was kidnapped undetected from her residence without parental permission and carried to Mr. Harley’s address. Once taken to his residence, he proceeded to molest her. The child was found by Mr. Harley’s girlfriend in the bed and the child’s underwear was in Mr. Harley’s pocket.
The case was heard in Pike County due to a change of venue. A Pike County Jury found Mr. Harley guilty of Child Kidnapping and Child Molestation in the First Degree on October 12, 2012. Sentencing was on December 10, 2012.
“I never think the punishment is severe enough for cases like these. Anytime a child is a victim of this type of crime, I am especially concerned as these cases are so difficult to convince a jury. Child molesters don’t typically leave behind evidence or have an eye witness. I am most pleased that Harley will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life because of this conviction,” said Askey.
This case was prosecuted by Prosecuting Attorney Leah Askey and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Rebecca Richardson with the assistance of the Moscow Mills Police Department, including Lieutenant Nick Brimager, who was the lead investigator.
