Harold “Hal” William Bartee, 70, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., passed away at his home on Dec. 30, 2012.
He was born in Clark, Mo. on May 27, 1942, to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Bartee, and was the youngest of two children. Mr. Bartee was a beloved son, brother, uncle and father. A prodigious scholar and athlete, he was the recipient of advanced degrees, outstanding teaching awards, and numerous sports awards. As a young boy, he was actively involved as a player in the George Khoury Association of Baseball Leagues and received the Babe Ruth Sportsmanship Award. He graduated with honors from Buchanan High school in Troy in 1960, where he received the prestigious Rebekah and Odd Fellows American History Award, and was a member of the 1960 Trojans “Cinderella team” runner-up state men’s basketball champions and the track team.
Upon graduation from high school, he was recruited for minor league baseball, but chose to attend college at Illinois State University. He received a Bachelors of Science degree from Illinois State University and was also a member of the men’s track team. He then attended Missouri State University, where he received a degree in Administration. Over the next several decades, Mr. Bartee was a distinguished teacher of advanced mathematics and an outstanding administrator in the Kansas City public school system. A member of Who’s Who in Education, he was most recently a retired distinguished professor from DeVry University. As a teacher scholar, his extraordinary dedication and commitment to excellence in education was evidenced by numerous outstanding teaching awards and consistent accolades from his students over the years. He was also a wonderful full time caregiver for his mother in her later years and an exceptional loving brother to his sister and uncle to his niece. He was actively involved in his community and was never too busy to help someone in need. His gentle and caring nature, character and integrity earned him profound respect from his friends and family.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Bartee will be held Friday at 11:00 am at the Cater Funeral Home Chapel in Moberly, Missouri. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service.
He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Max Nickerson, of Eldon, Mo., niece Cheryl Nickerson, of Phoenix, Ariz., and daughter, Elizabeth Yvonne Meyer, of Colorado.
Trevor Scott Davis, 36, of Wright City passed away Jan. 5, 2013, at his residence. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at the Lions Club in Wright City.
He was employed as a manager.
