One Troy wrestler achieved a milestone in recent competition.

Troy Buchanan High School wrestlers stayed local competing at the St. Charles West Invitational. Some of the competition came from as far away as Edwardsville, Ill., Jackson, Mo. and Iowa City, Iowa. Some of the toughest competition was from the Gateway Athletic Conference. Sixteen (16) in all competed in the two-day tournament.

The first day the teams were placed in four pools with a round robin format. On the second top, the top two wrestlers from each pool were put in eight-man championship bracket while other wrestlers were placed in consolation brackets. After the first day, most Troy wrestlers were in the consolation brackets.

Two Troy wrestlers battled their way to the podium for the awards presentation. Colt Schuman, a junior in the 113-pound class, began his tourney with a loss but then posted a win, placing him in the championship bracket. On the second day, he lost two matches putting him fifth. He had to face the winner of his first match. He avenged yet another loss by winning 5-0 for fifth.

Tim Hoffman’s hard work has been paying off this season. On the first day in the 160-lb class, he pinned all of his opponents, advancing him to the championship bracket. On the second day, he won his first match but fell short in the second match. He eventually placed third for the bronze medal. In doing so, he earned his 100th victory, quite an accomplishment for any high school wrestler. As a freshman, he was undefeated at that level and earned some on the varsity level that year. He has been a varsity wrestler since his sophomore year and competed at the state tournament. His goal is a return to Columbia for this year’s state tourney.
