Posted on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 8:48 am

Anyone who has ever experienced the companionship of a family pet quickly comes to understand just how much these tender souls can teach us through their natural enthusiasm, grace, resourcefulness, affection and forgiveness.  For pet lovers of all ages, there is nothing more tragic than when one of our furry little friends are left abandoned or abused.  Since 1998, the O’Fallon, Mo. based 501(c) 3 not-for-profit Heartland Humane Society of Missouri has made it their personal mission to rescue those less fortunate of our animal friends.  Operating strictly through private donations and annual fund-raising efforts, Heartland has found loving permanent homes for more than 7600 of their rescues.  In a recent press release, Heartland announced ticket sales for what they are billing as the biggest single night fundraiser in Heartland’s fourteen year history.  Making this year’s annual trivia night extra special will be the addition of a celebrity auction offering fans of the famous some truly unique and one-of-a-kind signed items.

On Friday, November 30th, 2012 at the O’Fallon, Mo. Elks Lodge, Heartland hopes to have a sell out audience on hand for this year’s “Heartland Humane Society of Mo. Trivia Night & Celebrity Auction” with special celebrity guest and emcee, Sandy Miller, a former Miss Missouri, Miss America runner-up and currently Fox 2 “News Edge” anchor.   Doors open at 6:00 PM with trivia questions starting at 7:00 PM.  Their celebrity auction will begin during the trivia nights halfway point break offering bidders the opportunity to take home signed collectibles from Country Music sensation Taylor Swift, Charlie Daniels, NASCAR collectibles, signed scripts & cast signed photo’s from Fox Network’s “House, M.D.”, and signed 1st Edition books from some of America’s most noted authors like John Grisham, Dean Koontz and many others.

States Lori Hawkins, Heartland Humane Society of Missouri President, “With the help of retired Missouri entertainment columnist and author, RW McMurray of Winfield, Mo., we have spent the last year and a half procuring a wide variety of truly incredible pieces of celebrity memorabilia thanks to Mr. McMurray’s contacts in the celebrity world.”    Hawkins goes on to say, “Last year Mr. McMurray met with all eleven of the 2011 touring ‘American Idol’ singers prior to their performance in St. Louis.  We anticipate strong bids for the guitar Mr. McMurray got signed for us at that meeting.  The guitar includes signatures from American Idol’s 2011 winner Scottie McCreary, along with Pia Tuscano, Casey Abrahms and the remaining eight American Idol stars.  The guitars winning bidder will also receive the backstage pass and cast signed color 8×10 Mr. McMurray also obtained for us.”

Other big ticket items Heartland will be offering bidders includes a “Big Brother” Season 9 “Head of Household” robe; a “Desperate Housewives” series finale signed script; 2011 Pro Baseball “All-Star Game” practice jacket and T-shirt; former Super Model Cheryl Tieg’s personal jewelry and designer Dolce & Gabanna sunglasses, and much more.

Heartland Humane Society of Missouri focuses its rescue efforts in both St. Charles and portions of Lincoln County.  They also take in unwanted pets from many high-kill shelters, including Jefferson & St. Louis County Animal Control.
