A group of friends that all had the running bug decided a local race would be fun and just what they needed. With more than
running as their common bond, the group noticed that everyone had been affected by cancer. There, the plans started to get together a local run/walk to benefit cancer research.
This small dream and idea led to a huge turnout. Over 170 registered walkers/runners came out for the first annual Hope on the Prairie Run/Walk. On Saturday, August 10, 2013, at 7 p.m., Hawk Point was taken over by a wave of walkers/runners wearing bright green t-shirts to raise money for “Put the SSHH on Cancer” Relay for Life team. Better weather could not have been asked for! The walkers/runners started at the Hawk Point Community Park and made their way to the Prairie and back to the park totaling four miles. After the run/walk there was a party in the park for all those who came out to support “Hope on the Prairie”.
This event was such a success it is being planned as an annual event! Next year there is hope for a timed event for residents to participate in, please check out Hope on the Prairie’s facebook page to get event updates, https://www.facebook.com/hopeontheprairie.
