Horst indicted on federal drug and firearm charges

Posted on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 8:27 am

Jeffery Horst, 36, Troy, was indicted for his alleged possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine in June 2012, in Troy. Horst was also charged with possession of a firearm in furtherance of the alleged drug crime. He appeared in federal court earlier Friday (Feb. 22) in St. Louis.

If convicted, the drug charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or fines up to $1 million; the firearms charge carries a penalty range of five years to life in prison consecutive to all other sentences. In determining the actual sentences, a judge is required to consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which provide recommended sentencing ranges.

This case was investigated by the Lincoln County Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Assistant United States Attorney John Bird is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

As is always the case, charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations and do not constitute proof of guilt. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty.
