The Clopton-Elsberry IndianHawks took it on the chin in a 47-8 home loss to the Montgomery County Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 6. The team is now 0-2 on the season.

“Montgomery County is a good team. They’re big, fast and strong,” said IndianHawks Head Coach Mike Scheibel. “They came out of the gate fast and our defense couldn’t get off the field. We stopped them a lot on first and second downs but they converted a lot on third downs. Anytime an offense does that, your defense bogs down.”

IndianHawks’ quarterback Jack Hicks was five for 14 passing in the game for 25 yards and one interception. He fared better on the ground, gaining 91 yards on 12 carries and accounted for the Hawks’ only touchdown.

Senior offensive lineman Danny Somers ran for the two-point conversion. Sophomore receiver Jeremy Jennewein caught three of Hicks’ passes for 25 yards. Senior wide receiver Rheed Leake carried the ball four times for 73 yards. Senior running back Devin Linton had 41 yards on eight carries.

On defense, Leake led the IndianHawks with seven tackles as a linebacker. Linton had five from the linebacker position, as did senior linebacker Bobby Schlueter and junior linebacker Michael Werkmeister. Junior defensive lineman Alex Somers had four tackles and junior defensive back Collin Dugan had three.
