IndianHawks win playoff game, eliminated by Palmyra

The Clopton-Elsberry Indian-Hawks had a tight game for one quarter at home on Senior Night against the Harrisburg Bulldogs Oct. 25 and then exploded in the second quarter to put the game away. The final score was 68-22, with senior IndianHawks running back Rheed Leake scoring four touchdowns and senior quarterback Jack Hicks running for a pair of TDs and tossing two. This win advanced Clopton-Elsberry to a district playoff game against Monroe City.

The IndianHawks scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and beat the Monroe City Panthers at home, 34-20.

The win puts the IndianHawks up against the powerhouse Palmyra Panthers who ended their season with a 58-6 win on Nov. 6.

Quarterback Jack Hicks run wild for 284 yards on 20 carries for four touchdowns in the Monroe City win.

Monroe City opened the scoring in the first quarter with a touchdown pass. The failed extra point made it 6-0.

Clopton-Elsberry came right back with Hicks’ first score. The two-point play was no good and it was 6-6.

Monroe City came right back with a touchdown and the two-point conversion made it 14-6.

Hicks scored again in the second quarter and the two-point play to junior Collin Dugan knotted the score, 14-14. Hicks scored again as the first half wound down. The conversion failed and the score was 20-14.

There was no scoring in the third quarter but early in the fourth quarter, the Panthers scored a touchdown and missed the extra point to tie it at 20-20.

In the fourth quarter, Hicks hit sophomore wide receiver Jeremy Jennewein with a touchdown pass. The two-point play failed and it was 26-20.

Hicks got his last touchdown later in the quarter and also ran it in for two. That made it 34-20 and the Indian-Hawks held on for the win.

Hicks completed four of eight passes for 32 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.

Senior running back Rheed Leake had 10 carries for 55 yards. Jennewein caught three passes for 30 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, senior linebacker Devin Linton had 13 tackles and defended a pass. Rheed Leake had nine tackles from his linebacker spot. Senior defensive lineman Danny Somers had eight tackles and sacked the quarterback. Dillon Zumwalt had seven tackles and a quarterback sack. Hicks had six tackles from his free safety spot. Junior linebacker Michael Werkmeister had five tackles and a sack. Senior defensive back Ryan Booher had five tackles.
