Recently, a friend of mine, Jennifer Hollandsworth, owner of Legacy Photography Studio, entered into a photo
competition. The contest rules were to pick a song and portray it through pictures and take the pictures in an area that you haven’t worked with before. The song inspiration was Gary Jules’ Mad World and the location was in Cuivre River State Park in an unusual setting.
The chorus of Mad World is listed below.
“And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I´m dying
Are the best I´ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
Cos’ I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It´s a very very
I was asked to help Jennifer portray the lyrics through pictures and together we created some very edgy photos that were serene and yet very explosive with feeling in the end. After listening to Mad World I knew that the song would really touch a lot of people with all the tragedies that have been happening.
As each new day begins we all hope things will get better, yet there are still school shootings, abuse, racism, bullying, and so much more anger out there. We all need to stop and let go. We need to let go of our anger and stop harvesting it only to build up and turn into something much bigger than the original anger.
I feel like I can’t even flip through the TV channels without hearing of another shooting, robbery or death in the area. We all need to hit our “reset buttons” and find our priorities again. Confide in others when times are tough, if you let it build in you it only get worse. I feel like that’s the root how many of the tragedies start. Pay attention to those around you, let them know you appreciate them for all they do, try a good deed every once in a while…helping others really does have a rewarding feeling.
Let’s get out of this mad world with our sanity, dignity and grace. I have heard this saying over and over again and I think there is a reason for it, “let go and let God”, we can’t do it all by ourselves but we can make a difference if we try.
