Shriners Hospitals for Children® announced Thursday that Joe Dertinger, of Waconia, Minn., and Katie Ladlie, of Troy, are the health care system’s 2014-2015 national patient ambassadors.
During a standing-room only presentation that is always one of the highlights of Shriners International’s five-day Imperial Session, the courageous stories of these two remarkable individuals were shared via the premiere of the video, “Born to Inspire.” The two were given their new titles and responsibilities. Joe and Katie received life-changing care at the Shriners Hospitals in Minneapolis and St. Louis, respectively. Despite tremendous challenges, both have overcome and persevered, and are now accomplished athletes, achieving their goals and seeing their dreams become realities.
Every year, Shriners Hospitals for Children chooses two national patient ambassadors to represent the thousands of children who receive care at the health care system annually. The ambassadors spend a year sharing their stories in order to inspire others and raise awareness of Shriners Hospitals for Children.
The stories of Joe and Katie are representative of the successes that can be found throughout the 22-location Shriners Hospitals for Children health care system.
