On April 19, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a Child Abuse/Child Molestation. The three year old victim was brought to the St. Joseph West Medical Center in Lake Saint Louis by her mother. The victim’s mother said her boyfriend, Daniel Kittle, was watching the victim when she was injured. Kittle said the victim was playing on the stairs and bumped her head. Medical personnel at St. Joseph West said the child was presented with extensive injuries to her face and head, as well as additional injuries to her arms, legs, buttocks, and genitals. The attending physician said the child’s head injuries suggested she was beaten nearly to death. The victim was sent to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., where the child protection team advised the child’s injuries could not have occurred in the manner provided by Kittle.
Investigators later interviewed Kittle at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. During the interview, Kittle said he became irritated by the victim because he was coming down from his heroin high. Kittle said he pulled his vehicle off the road in the area of Highway EE and Mansion Road near Winfield, and struck the victim twice in the head with his fist. Kittle denied any sexual contact with the victim.
The Lincoln County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Kittle with Assault First Degree-Serious Physical Injury, a Class A Felony, and Child Molestation First Degree, a Class B Felony. Kittle is currently being held on a $200,000 cash only bond at the Lincoln County Jail.
Those charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
