Lady Owls win two of three games

The Silex Lady  Owls snatched the lead late in the game Sept. 4 in a 13-8 victory over Louisiana.  Silex was down 8-7 in the top of the seventh inning when Lexie Plackemeier singled in two runs.  For the game, Silex banged out 20 hits.

Mollie Stanek drove in the fist run for Silex in the first inning with a single. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Louisiana tied things up at  7-7. Louisiana scored three runs in the sixth inning. 

Halle Mueller was the pitcher for Silex. She lasted seven innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs while striking out ten.

Plackemeier, Carson Harlan, Taylor Howard, Stanek, Mueller, and Makayla Schneider each had multiple hits for Owls.  Stanek, Howard, Harlan, and Plackemeier each managed three hits to lead Owls.

“Our defense wasn’t where it should have been against Louisiana, but we fought through it and never gave up,” said Coach Rebecca Lipsey.

In their previous game  against Winfield on Aug 31,  the Lady Owls were shut out 13-0 by Winfield.  For Winfield  the winning run in the first inning on a two-run single by Camille Martin.

Bre Burkemper got the start for Winfield. She went five innings, allowing zero runs on three hits and struck out four. Mueller started for Silex.  She went three innings, allowed six hits and seven runs while striking out three.  Taylor Howard pitched two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Harlan, Plackemeier, and Chloee Kinion each collected one hit to lead Owls.

On the night before, Silex posted an 8-3 win over Montgomery County R-II.

They opened up scoring in the first inning, when Stanek singled in one run.  Halle Mueller got the start for Owls. She gave up three runs on two hits in seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Stanek led Owls with two hits in three at bats.
