Moderate flash flooding temporarily closed several roads in Lincoln County around New Year’s Eve.
Rain poured down on the last day of the year, causing Highway H, Highway BB, Davis Road, French Man’s Bluff and Gravens Road to flood and close. The fire department rescued four elderly people visiting family from California after they drove into three feet of water on Hwy BB. The barricades on the road had been put up, and then either were moved or washed away.
Everyone was safe and no other flood-related accidents were reported. Lincoln County Fire Chief Daniel Casey said that the Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency informed them that the rains might be heavy enough to cause problems.
“It’s good we got the heads up and we were able to be ready to get moving,” Casey said.
The Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency has requested that people submit a damage assessment report either online at www.lcmoema.com or by getting in contact with the office. So far no reports have been filed indicating property damage.
“I’m not expecting any residents or businesses to report damage, the focus is more on getting the roads back up and running,” Floodplain Manager Adam Stanek said.
