A Winfield man has been charged with felony arson and property damage after he admitted to setting his neighbor’s $30,000 truck on fire Sept. 2.
According to a probable cause statement, Joseph R. Kukan, 25, of the 300 block of Sandra Way, told investigators he had attended a party at the victim’s residence the night of Sept. 2. Kukan said he and others at the party had been gambling on games of darts. During the games, Kukan said he had gotten $160 in debt to the victim, who he paid. Kukan said others at the party then began “bullying,” him, which made him “very angry,” and he went home. Later that night, Kukan said he returned to the victim’s house with a machete and a soda bottle filled with gasoline. He said he chopped off a tree limb from the neighbor’s front yard and set it on fire with gasoline, throwing it on the hood of the victim’s truck before running back to his own house and going to bed.
