There are several signs that indicate Christmas is approaching. Radio stations play Christmas music, red and green decorations pop up everywhere and at many businesses around Lincoln County, Toys for Tots donation boxes are prominently displayed.
Every year, the Lincoln County Marine Corps League organizes the popular charity that services kids between the ages of 0-12, with last year’s donations reaching 2,500 kids in the Lincoln County area.
For most businesses, the organization is ecstatic to have a box half full of toys. However, some businesses go above and beyond expectations. Every year, the Behlmann Buick Dealership receives so many toys that it fills an entire 4×12 foot space. In the past this charity has come from a single older woman, however she passed away this year and her family made the donation in her memory. Members of the Lincoln County Marine Corps League Ray Lopez and Chuck Covert came to pick up the numerous toys on Dec. 11, which will then be taken to a warehouse facility to be sorted into age and gender appropriate bins before being distributed to families in less fortunate living situations. The organization aims to give every child at least two toys, as well as stocking stuffers and educational and coloring books donated mostly by Dollar General.
