Following a public hearing, the Moscow Mills Board of Aldermen approved a request for a variance paving the way for Performance Archery LLC, an archery pro shop and range at 448 Gracie Lane. The vote was 3-1 with Alderman Mary Lou Jung voting ‘no’ and Aldermen Matt Meyers, Mark Schuette and Melvin Gilbert approving it. The range will have 30 spots and the staff will continue working with 4-H and other youth as well as adults.
Under visitors’ comment Tom Rutledge voiced concerns about the recent discussions held by the council on increases in water and sewer rates. In relation to this issue, Steve Etcher, executive director of the Boonslick Regional Planning Commission updated the board on financing options and asked what the direction the board wanted Boonslick to take. The board voted to proceed with an engineering study.
The board also voted to have George Butler Åssociates, the city’s engineering firm, participate in the oversight of the maintenance storage building.
Following discussion of a petition from Bart Berneking on the annexation and zoning of the R&R Kientzy property, the board approved to hold a public hearing on the annexation on Aug. 12 and another on the re-zoning request on Sept. 9. Both will start at 6:30 p.m. They also scheduled the second quarter budget review for July 29 at 6 p.m. The public is invited to all hearings.
Under the Planning and Zoning report, a motion to approve a motorcycle shed at 810 Adams Street was made by Larry Cumberland and seconded by Bob Dwyer with the stipulation that the minutes show that the placement in front of the main building was an exception. A motion to repair/improve the sign at 10 Freise Industrial Drive (Bank of Old Monroe) was made by Larry Cumberland and seconded by Andy Teschendorf with the agreed stipulation that any improvements to the sign would not exceed the square footage of the original application. The motion passed 4 to zero.
Several P and Z members asked why it should take months to get approval to repair a sign that had been in compliance. The P & Z Commission are to review those sections ofChapter 46 pertaining to Signs and Sheds.
