On November 5, Lincoln County Council on Aging proposed that November be Adopt a Senior Month. County Commissioners signed the proclamation to make it official.
Approximately 19.7 percent of Lincoln County residents are 60 years and older and nationally one in nine senior citizens is going hungry each day.
The Lincoln County Council on Aging was established to provide a nutritious meal program for persons 60 years of age or older, their spouses regardless of age, and to handicapped persons 18-59 years of age who provide documentation for their handicap.
In recognition of the efforts of the 12 employees and the 210 volunteers at the Elsberry Nutrition Center, the Silex Senior Center, the Troy Senior Center, and the Winco Senior Center, who fight senior hunger by providing a hot, nutritious meals at low cost or no cost for 5,894 senior citizens of Lincoln County.
