Troy Buchanan High Trojans jumped out of the chute early Sept. 6, scoring 22 unanswered points in the first period enroute to a 41-14 win over Warrenton. This improved Troy’s record to 2-0.
Devon Fuller rushed for 155 yards and scored twice. Quarterback Wyatt Hayes passed for two TDs, completing 6 for 11 passes for 128 yards. Troy held a 428-203 edge in total offense. Brandon Westhoff caught three pases for 71 yards (TD) and Nick Travis caught two for 16 yards. In addition to his 155 yards rushing, Fuller had 41 yards in receptions.
In the opening quarter, Justin Sutphin scored from one yard out, capping a seven yard drive. Nick Rhode added the PAT. Fuller then scored on a 49-yard run on Troy’s next possession (Rhode PAT) increased the lead to 14-0. On their next possession, Hayes threw a 41 yard pass to Fuller and they added the two-point conversion. A touchdown pass from Hayes to Branden Westhoff covered 21 yards in the second period, helping Troy to a 29-0 lead at the half. In the third period, Fuller scored on a 52-yard run. In the final period, the Warriors sandwiched two TDs around a 13-yard run by Troy’s Brendan Lofland to complete the scoring.
Defensively, Troy had seven tackles resulting in lost yardage for the Warriors. Johnny Pulliam had 4 and 1/2 tackles with Nick getting 3 and 1/2. Austin Robertson had an interception.
