The Old Monroe Atoms 2 began the season with just 10 players (10 players are who plays the field in any given inning) They only had 10 due to Old Monroe wanting to split into two teams to allow for greater playing time for each young player. Old Monroe had two teams in this age division both of which only had 10 players. One coach was Scott Westhoff and the other was David Fry’s Old Monroe Diamondbacks. Both teams had amazing regular seasons with Westhoff which had 12 – 0 record and Fry at was 9-3 (those three losses were all to the amazing Westhoff team).
Old Monroe Westhoff team placed first in their half of division and Old Monroe Diamondbacks (Fry) placed second. They were BOTH going to the playoffs! Playoffs were scheduled and both teams played July 24. Westhoff took on the second place team for the other division which was Troy Bockhorst, and Old Monroe Diamondbacks (Fry) took on Warrenton McPike. All four teams battled hard and after eight innings Old Monroe Diamondbacks (Fry) had a win, and after seven innings Old Monroe Westhoff had a win!
Championship game was scheduled for July 26. OM Westhoff was down a player leaving them with only nine players, and Old Monroe Diamondbacks (Fry) were down two players leaving them only eight players.
The game was a great game put on by both teams! After a full seven innings, Old Monroe Diamondbacks won by just one run, becoming the 2017 L.C.A.A. Atoms 2 champions.
The players on both teams played so incredibly hard and made the Old Monroe Community so proud! Many of the boys on these two teams have previously played together on one team so the unity and friendship between them are second to none.
OM Westhoff was crowned the first- place team for the regular season, and Old Monroe Diamondbacks were crowned the 2017 LCAA champi
