On October 16 at 6:30 p.m. a meet and greet will be taking place at the Troy Chamber of Commerce, located at 850 E Cherry Street, Suite A, to possibly get an Organ Transplant Awareness group started in the Lincoln County area.
The meet and greet is set up to introduce Lincoln County residents to each other so they can find information, help and support in their time of need before, during or after a transplant. The meet and greet will hopefully begin a monthly support group for anyone to attend. It’s important to know everything about the experience and help from others can be the key.
The meet and greet was inspired from a group out in St. Louis called Team Transplant Saint Louis. All those who are in the Team Transplant Saint Louis group have been giving a second chance at life through transplant. Their goals for Team Transplant Saint Louis are to: Educate and empower families and individuals affected by organ donation and transplantation; Educate society about the importance of registering with the National Donor Registry; Raise public awareness about the number of lives one person can save or improve by becoming an organ and tissue donor; Encourage individuals after receiving an organ transplant to live their life to its full potential; Support recipients, living donors, and donor families, and honor those who have given the gift of life; and Encourage Team Transplant St. Louis members to participate in the U.S. Transplant Games. These are the guidelines that the Lincoln County Transplant Support Group would take on in hopes of being able to reach out and help those in the community who have been affected by a transplant.
