Palmer Library fundraiser

Spring is nearly upon us, and it’s time once again for Elsberry residents to mark their calendars in anticipation of the annual Joseph R. Palmer Family Memorial Library Fundraiser.

In what is somewhat of a break from tradition, this year’s event will feature no speakers.

“Our focus this year will be on entertainment,” said Sarah Hunt, president of the library board. “Instead of a speaker, we will feature two phenomenal musical groups.”

Specifically, the event will consist of an evening of smooth jazz tunes performed by Progression and Double Date, two St. Louis area acapella quartets.

“Both groups are looking forward to this great event,” said Mark Keever, one of the founding members of Progression.

Each quartet features members of the internationally renowned acapella group The Ambassadors of Harmony, a St. Charles based barbershop chorus that has made quite a name for itself in recent years.

The Ambassadors have a strong fan base in St. Louis and surrounding areas, and many of the group’s members have been successful in branching out and forming quartets of their own, hence groups like Progression and Double Date.

The meal for this year’s event will be catered by the Elsberry FFA, and those in attendance will have a choice of either chicken or beef.

Following the meal there will be a 30-minute performance by Progression, an all-male acapella quartet led by Matt Suellentrop.

Double Date will perform the final 30-minute set.

As in the past, there will be a silent auction as well as attendance prizes. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m., but doors will open at 6 p.m. Reservations must be made by March 30, Tickets can be purchased at the library!
