The season mark of 4-2 is not where the Troy Trojan softball team wanted to be at this early point of the season but that is where they stand as of Sept. 5.
In their recent games, they split with two of the more competitive rivals in the South Division in the Gateway Athletic Conference. On Sept. 4, they posted a 2-1 win over Francis Howell Central on a walk-off home run by Cam Patterson in the bottom of the seventh inning. She also drove in a run in the bottom of the third inning. Troy finished with seven hits off Alyssa Kolkmeyer. Getting the hits (all singles) were Dallis Darnell, Kim DeBold, Kelsey Sachs , Natalie Sullivan, and Bella Wilson. Kiersten Nixon was the winning pitcher. She went seven innings, allowed four hits, and struck out 12 hitters.
In their previous game played Aug. 30, they lost 4-3 to Wentzville Holt. Getting RBIs for Troy were Sullivan, Nixon, and Patterson. Nixon pitched all seven innings for Troy, gave up only two hits and struck out eight.
“We just had a bad defensive inning committing two errors which led to four unearned runs,” said Coach Lance Richardson. “Nixon pitched great only giving up two hits. In the win over Central, big walk off home run from Cam. Nixon pitched well. Our offense is definitely not where I thought it would be at this point, but that is why we practice. We will keep working and hopefully get things on track!”
