Possibly a changing of attitudes on issues?

Last weekend I attended several special events which concentrated on specific issues.

On Friday, I attended the prayer vigil sponsored annually by the Lincoln County Right to Life Chapter. This Jan. 22 was the 41st anniversary of Roe vs. Wade decision by the United States Supreme Court which legalized abortion. Since that date, abortionists have killed over 55 million babies since 1973. The Lincoln County chapter has attempted, since 1977, to educate citizens about the sanctity of life. Their effort is to assure that the right to life of each human from the moment of fertilization to one’s natural end is protected.

A few days after that vigil, I heard on the news that the national attitude on abortion may be swinging the other way with more people leaning towards a pro-life position. More states have implemented or have legislation prepared for filing which could make abortions much harder to obtain.

I was sitting there inside the Trinity Lutheran Church when, at the end, came the lighting of the candles. All but a few went outside and when they returned, they quietly marched in and formed a semi-circle around the seats. Forty-one candles (one for each year) provided light into the top events of each respective year as recited by Mike Byers. As each year was reviewed, one person stepped up. Upon the conclusion of the narrative, the number of reported abortions performed that year was read. Over 1.5 million rang out over consecutive years. As each total was completed, the candle was extinguished, remembering the deaths and darkness. The review of the major events helped stir my memories but sitting there, realizing over 1.5 million lives were halted even before birth was heart-wrenching. How would their lives have been played out. I know of situations and a few women where abortion could have been an option out of a difficult situation. One in particular now has a beautiful young daughter who provides so much comfort and is surrounded with love by her family. I saw another two-year old recently who had been living with other family members inside a vehicle after having their home condemned. It is not the child’s fault for the situation. He has life….that is, a chance to succeed.

America continues to see an erosion of values in life through the decades I have had the privileged to live in. Life should be precious and the respect for it should have no bounds. Building family and personal relationships should be paramount. I value to family values which was instilled in me.

“The fruit of the womb a reward.”Psalm 127:3

Pause for Thought: A cardinal (bird) is a representative of a loved one who has passed. When you see one, it means they are visiting you. They usually show up when you most need them or miss them. They also make an appearance during times of celebration as well as despair to let you know they will always be with you. Look for them, they’ll appear. If true, if abortion is reversed, will we see an increase in cardinals?
