After hearing about Roy Phillip’s story that ran in the Lincoln County Journal through a friend, Jackie Heggemann and Jean

Jean Jaeger (left) and Jackie Heggemann (right) present Roy Phillips with his quilt honoring him for the time he served in WWII.

Jaeger felt it was necessary to honor the veteran with a quilt through an organization they are involved with, Quilts of Valor. On Thursday, April 11 Jackie and Jean traveled to Roy’s house from their own homes in southern Warren County and delivered him a beautiful hand sewn quilt. Every quilt Quilts of Valor gives is individually hand sewn and labeled with the quilt number, the recipient’s name and the date it was given. Roy was delighted with his quilt number 1054. Roy said that this was a wonderful gift because he is naturally cold blooded. It was hard to determine who was happier, the wonderful women giving away the quilt, or the strong veteran accepting it.

Ready to celebrate their eight-year anniversary, Quilts of Valor is comprised of over 100 women from 10 different counties. They have come a long way since their formation in 2005, having delivered 269 quilts in 2012 alone. Many of the quilts they gave out last year went to soldiers in hospitals in Afghanistan and Germany. They have delivered quilts to 33 states and will give a quilt to anyone locally who has served in combat.
