Raymond Hugh Colbert Jr. of Jacksonville, Ill. became 80 years young on Oct. 21, 2013. He was born in Olney, Mo. to Raymond (Sr) and Lola Shelton Colbert. He married Imogene Knock on Aug. 24, 1952 in Louisville in Lincoln County. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. They have been blessed with eight children. Debbie (Jim) Finn of Springfield, Ill., Dana Garwood, of Marco Island, Fla., Ray (Otto) and Diana, of Naperville, Ill., Rick (Kimberly), of Jacksonville, Ill., Randy, of Jacksonville, Ill. Angela Maas (deceased), Alicia Colbert, of Springfield, Ill. and Ava (Fricke) Lock, of Springfield, Ill.
He retired from Colbert Trucking and Fanning Oil in Jacksonville. Previously he was an over the road trucker with Rodgers Cartage Company out of Louisana, Mo. and Meredosia, Ill. He also worked in hog confinement for Jim Lonergan and farming/trucking in Missouri. During the Korean conflict, Ray was in the Army, stationed at Mainz- Gonsenheim, Germany. He is Papa “Jr” to 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson. Two more great grandbabies are expected soon.
An open celebration was held, Saturday, Oct. 26, at First Christian Church, 2106 South Main, Jacksonville where Ray and Imogene are longtime members.
