The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nicholas J. Rhodes, 35, of St. Charles, for stealing a motor vehicle over the weekend in Silex.
According to release from Sheriff John Cottle, Rhodes was visiting the victim in Silex, when he persistently asked to borrow his vehicle to drive to St Charles. After being told several times he could not, Rhodes took the victim’s vehicle around 9 a.m., on Sunday (March 2).
Several hours later, Rhodes returned to the Silex residence with the victim’s motor vehicle. Deputies returned and took Rhodes into custody. Rhodes told deputies the victim’s mom made him feel bad about asking for the car so he borrowed it for a short time.
Rhodes is charged with First Degree Tampering with a Motor Vehicle and is currently housed at the Lincoln County Jail under a $15,000 or 10 percent cash only bond.
Those charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
