Ruth E. Duff , 97, of Eolia, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015.
She was born on March 8, 1918, in rural Cyrene, to Overton and Gertrude (Warner) Huckstep. Ruth was the youngest of seven children and had six older siblings: John, Alton, Earl, Martin, Mary Allice and Helen. As a youngster, she only lived three miles from her future husband, John Larry Duff. She walked two miles to school each day. At the age of 19, she married her sweetheart, John Duff. They were blessed with one son, Marion, who was the apple of their eye.
Ruth’s husband farmed and she would help in anyway she could. She had a sweet personality and was always willing to do her part. Ruth sewed for her family as well as others. Hard work was no stranger to Ruth. She was talented and liked to quilt, making well over 100 quilts during her lifetime. While living at Sugar Creek Assisted Living, she also enjoyed crocheting and knitting, making hats for newborns and cancer patients. When she had more time on her hands, she liked to put puzzles together. Visiting with family and friends was what she liked to do. Ruth especially loved cooking for her family and spending time with them. She will be greatly missed and long remembered by all those that loved her.
Surviving are her beloved son, Marion and wife, Pam Duff of Eolia; adoring grandchildren: Christopher and wife Amy Duff of Mexico, Mo., Shana and husband JR Wiley of Mexico, Mo.; and her three great-grandchildren: Ethan Wiley, Austin Duff and Cody Duff; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Overton and Gertrude Huckstep; her husband, John Larry Duff; her brothers: John, Alton, Earl and Martin Huckstep; her sisters: Mary Alice Lafollette and Helen Allison and one great-granddaughter: Emily Louise Duff.
