Landmark Restaurant closed its doors last month, but in its place will be a new family-oriented casual dining spot opening early January.

Sami’s Family Restaurant and Banquet Center first opened in Troy in February 2013, but owners Seth and Casey Zeka sold it in August that same year. They moved to Joplin to open another Sami’s restaurant there, but now they’ve decided to return home – and to bring the restaurant with them. Sami’s is still in Joplin under new ownership of Seth’s brother, but the couple is bringing the franchise back home to Troy at a new location. Sami’s Family Restaurant and Banquet Center will open early January at 190 South Lincoln Drive in Troy.

“I wanted to come home,” said Casey, who is from Troy. Seth, who is originally from Albania, has been involved in the restaurant industry since he moved to the United States in 2003, and Casey has been working with him for over 10 years.

“I just married into the restaurant business, but it’s all he’s done since he’s been here,” Casey said. The restaurant, Sami’s, is named after their son.

Casey says she wants people to know that at Sami’s, customers are treated like family. Many still know them from the restaurant’s beginning years in Troy.

The grand opening at the new location on South Lincoln will take place on January 7 at 6 a.m.
