Sheriff seeks information on unusual area burglary

How often do burglar(s) take….and then bring back the items which had been stolen? That is a rare occurrence and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s investigation wants to know why.

Detective Sgt Ryan McCarrick says there are other events which makes this case unusual.

On the day of  Evelyn Highfill’s funeral (Jan. 12), her home at 802 Franklin in Hawk Point was burglarized. She had not been living there since the previous November when she went into a nursing home.  Among the items which were taken included a 32-inch Sanyo television, jewelry, credit cards and war medals. On Jan. 28, a city employee was clearing flowers off her grave and notice a red box. Inside the box were the credit cards, jewelry and war medals as well as her husband’s drivers license. On Feb. 10, neighbors of her House on Franklin noticed two subjects going to the rear of the home. When authorities arrived there was the missing TV.

“We don’t know if we have a burglar with a conscience or what but the medals could have been melted for money, the credit cards could have been used and the TV sold but they weren’t, McCarrick said. “There was some damage done to the home during the burglary and the family is wanting to know if they possibly knew the burglars.”

If anyone has any information, they are invited to contact the sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division at 636-528-8546, ext 3485.
