William Corey WelshAn argument over stolen medication apparently helped trigger a shooting in rural Lincoln County, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department

According to the report, around 4:30 pm, on Sept. 11, 2013, Lincoln County deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Morgan Valley Rd, in Foley, for a shooting.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with homeowner, William Corey Welsh, age 41, who stated his daughter’s teenage ex-boyfriend and four other men arrived at his residence to retrieve video games.

During the stay a verbal argument started over stolen medication the ex-boyfriend may have taken from Welsh. The ex-boyfriend’s friend 20-year old, Christopher Kinney, of St. Charles, took his shirt off and threatened to fight Welsh.

Welsh retreated to his residence and returned with a handgun.

Welsh told investigators the boy threatened his wife and as a result he fired three shots into the ground to disperse the teenagers.

However, physical evidence revealed four shots were fired of which three struck in the 2004 Lincoln LS car. One bullet passed through driver’s side, rear door, and struck the passenger in the wrist. The men drove the injured man to the Lincoln County Medical Center for treatment.

A second round penetrated the trunk of the vehicle and the third round caused an indentation on the roof of the vehicle.

The 22-year old victim, of Wentzville, was in stable condition and was later released from the hospital.

Welsh is currently charged with five counts of Felony Assault in the First Degree and Felony Armed Criminal Action. He is currently housed at the Lincoln County Jail under a $75,000 cash only bond.

Those charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
