The Silex baseball team is getting ready for the upcoming season.
The Owls finished last season with a 12-4 record and finished second in the district. Players lost to graduation were Colton Groshong, Joe Martin, Jacob Stolle, Daniel Trentman, Caleb Hudson, Jake Hinkebein and Camryn Sanders.
Silex will see the return of three key players, Jake Adams, Wyatt Gruenloh and Fletcher Williams. Adams is 2-0 with a 2.6 ERA. Gruenloh, a first baseman, holds a .959 percent and Williams, an outfielder, holds a 1.00 percent. Silex Head Coach, Kent Hufty, said that the team has a lot of returning talent in the next season.
“We have several sophomores that got a taste last year and will make an impact this year,” he said.
Hufty continued that offense could be a challenge this year.
“Defensively.we should be okay and pitching we should be OK,” he said. “We lost a lot of offense and will have to prove ourselves in that area. We want to play each game as a preparation for districts and get into the district championship game. You have to get to that game before you can win it all.”
This will be Hufty’s third year coaching the baseball team. The Owls overall record is 32-20.
