The Silex Owls have competed in several high school baseball games.
On April 9, they breezed to a 19-4 win at Van-Far. Wyatt Groshong went three for four with three RBIs and Matt Huber also had three hits and produced six RBIs. Zach Miller had a double and Austin Fleming had one triple. Augie Martin drove in three runs. Chad Brown struck out nine batters in five innings to pick up the win.
The Owls erupted for eight runs in the first inning, six in the second and five in the third for the win.
They hosted a tournament on April 13 where they posted a 10-8 win over Clopton. They led 10-1 going into the seventh inning where the Hawks pushed across seven runs. Groshong drove in three runs in the win with Matt Mueller and Zach Miller driving in two runs each. Groshong had two doubles with Huber and Mueller one each.
Also that day, Ryan Eisenbath, Groshong and Fleming drove in two runs each in a 10-3 win over Elsberry. Groshong had two doubles in the win. Silex erupted for six runs in the fourth inning enroute to the win. Groshong also picked up the win as he allowed two hits and struck out seven.
On April 6, Silex lost a slugfest 15-10 to Montgomery R-II. Highlight of the game for Silex was a home run by Austin Fleming who drove in six runs in the game. Groshong was charged with the loss.
The Owls’ track teams competed April 20 in the Cunningham Invitational. Among the highlights for Silex included:
100 Meter Finals: Augie Martin (4th, 12.08).
200 Meter Finals: Augie Martin (3rd, 24.66).
400 Meter Finals: Augie Martin (4th, 54.22)
1600 Meter Finals: Elijah Lanning (13th, 6:08.46)
110 Meter Hurdle: Joey Rau-Massey (8th, 20.25)
300 Meter Hurdles: Joey Rau-Massey (6th, 47.75)
Highlights for the Lady Owls included:
400 Meter: Leah Miller (12th, 1:10.37)
800 Meter: Nichole Hawkins (10th, 3:01.18)
1600 Meter: Kimmy Duggan (9th, 6:31.74).
300m Hurdles: 5th, Rachel Lipsey (5th, 52.54).
Shot Put: Marcie Norton (6th, 30-01.50).
Discus: Marcie Norton(14th)
High Jump: Natalie Fleming (3rd, 4-8).
Long Jump: Michele Norton (17th, 10-08.75).
