Two Silex FFA members competed at the Mid-America Grasslands Evaluation National Contest in Springfield, Mo. They earned the spot to compete by earning a top placing in the state of Missouri last fall in competition. The contest tests students’ knowledge of grassland management skills for beef cattle production, wildlife management, soil science and plant identification. The goal of the contest is to educate students in the benefits, use and management of grasslands for livestock production and wildlife habitat.
Team members competing were Michael Edwards and Sam McDonald. Edwards earned 3rd place individually in the FFA Division and 4th place overall. McDonald earned 5th place individually in the FFA Division and 6th place overall. There were over 20 teams from several states competing at the national level contest.
