The city of Silex will hold a special meeting to appoint a new mayor on Thursday, April 20 at 7 p.m.
The board voted unanimously at the April 10 board of aldermen meeting to have the meeting to appoint a replacement for mayor Bob Zeh, who resigned on April 6. Zeh had won re-election during the April 4 election against Dorothy Ford with 24 votes to Ford’s 21 votes. He said his resignation was due to conflicts with work and spending more time with family.
Zeh had been appointed after the death of former Mayor David Rice and had been elected to a one-year term left vacant by Rice in the April 2016 election.
According to the City Administrator William Barnes, the board had to schedule a special meeting to make the appointment.
“We need to do it before the next scheduled board meeting,” he added.
Board President Justin Spanier will be acting as presiding mayor, until the mayor seat is filled. The appointee will fill the mayor’s position until the 2018 election.
