With the April 4 election results in, the Silex board of education got the year started with the swearing in of their new board members.
Members Tommy Kreuger, Steve Miller, and Kay Hall were sworn in at the April 12 board meeting. Kreuger and Miller were re-elected in the April 4 election with Kreuger receiving 221 votes and Miller receiving 240 votes. Hall is the board’s newest member, receiving 277 votes in the election.
The board then re-organized, and elected officers after the new members had been sworn in. Kreuger was elected president of the board. Miller was elected vice president Other officers were Kim Ellis, secretary and Gabe Twellman, treasurer.
The board honored retiring board member Julie Rodgers before the meeting started. Rodgers has been elected to the school board in 2014. Her seat was taken by Hall after she announced that she would not be running for reelection. Aside from the school board, Rodgers had been involved in the district for 22 years through the booster club and PTO.
“I would venture to say that she has single-handedly raised more money for this school district than anybody could have ever imagined and it is greatly appreciated everything she has done,” said Kreuger.
“I have enjoyed every minute of it,” said Rodgers. “It has absolutely been my pleasure to serve on the board with all of you (members).”
