The Silex softball team is gearing up for the upcoming season.
The Owls lost Sydney Kreuger, Shelby Kreuger, Tessa Gruenloh and Taylor Jett to graduation. Returning players include Halle Mueller, junior; Mollie Stanek, junior; Sami Mudd, senior and Taylor McAnulty, senior.
Mueller, a pitcher, pitched 87 innings and had 85 strikeouts last season. Her batting average was .307. Stanek was second in the number of runs scored and tied for the most RBIs last season. Mudd returns with a .273 batting average and McAnulty returns with .317 average.
The Owls welcome freshmen Lexi Plackmeier and Makayla Schneider as its newest members of the team.
Silex’s first game will be on Aug. 22 against Sturgeon. The game will be held at Sturgeon.
“I am excited for the season,” said Head Coach Rebecca Lipsey. “The girls have been working hard and showing improvement everyday.”
Lipsey says that the team’s strengths include pitching and defense while weaknesses are overall speed on the base path and the number of players this year.
The Owls finished up last year’s season 6-14. They are coached by Lipsey and Assistant Coach Jennifer Capstick.
