South Lincoln Drive Interchange fun run

Posted on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 12:22 pm

Coming this fall! Event date dependent on construction progress.

In the fall of 2013, the overpass at the intersection of South Lincoln Drive and Highway 61 will be completed along with three roundabouts. This project, with its creative use of roundabouts gave Jim Ditter the idea to host a unique event on this much-needed overpass. Ditter, with the support of the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), City of Troy and the Chamber of Commerce, is holding the South Lincoln Drive Interchange 5K Run this fall. The run is going to give participants the ability to compete on the newly constructed overpass, as well as run around the three new roundabouts. There will be a 5K run, One-Mile Family Walk and 100-yard dashes for the kids.

The event is being spearheaded by Jim Ditter an officer and member of the Troy Masonic Lodge #34 AF&AM and a retired soldier of the U.S. Military and combat veteran. While having only been in the community for a little more than five years, Jim has seen the good that comes from our community. “When this community does something they go all out, everyone gets involved and everyone shows up,” Jim recently made a reference to Lincoln County’s ability to get behind a good cause. He also said, “I want this to be an event where everyone feels welcome to participate. I don’t want anyone to look back on it and say I wish our organization could have participated.”

There are still plenty of opportunities for any organization that wants to be involved. Lots of opportunities for volunteers from pre-planning, setup, passing out water at the finish lines and clean up. There are sponsorship opportunities available, as funding is needed for portable restrooms, water bottles, snacks and other services. All proceeds benefit the Troy Lodge #34 AF&AM, a non-for profit organization, as well as community charity projects and scholarship funds. The group is also awarding two $500 scholarships to Lincoln County Students who write the best essay on the “Benefits of a Roundabout.” Scholarship information and application is available on the website.

Ditter is currently seeking additional people to become part of the 5K Run Committee. He is asking for help. The committee will meet at the Troy Masonic Lodge in downtown Troy. He wants to include all the area youth, church and community organizations in this one time event. Please contact him at .
