The City of Silex held their monthly Board of Alderman meeting on Monday, May 21 at the David E. Rice Government Building on N 1st Street in Silex.

Tensions were high as Alderman bickered amongst themselves about strained community commitment, problematic financial issues, and issues between citizens and police.

One Alderman called out his fellow board members by demanding that they speak on their commitment to the city after several alleged absences from a recent community tractor pull.

Discussions turned to public works, and the department received praise for continuing their work on improving the city’s water main lines.

Several prominent community members were in attendance, including former Mayor-elect Chuck Turbeyville. Turbeyville presented two state statutes to the Board, of which Turbeyville believes the city is in violation of. He asked that the Board and their legal counsel look over the statues in closed session.

In other news, Alderman Steve Gamble was sworn into office toward the end of the meeting, and was made the Board member of the Parks and Recreation department.
